INFLUENCE OF SELF-AWARENESS ON PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION IN RWANDA A CASE OF BADEA PROJECT IN BURERA DISTRICT, RWANDA
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study investigates the influence of self-awareness on project implementation, focusing on the BADEA Project in Burera District, Rwanda. Recognizing that many development projects face challenges such as delays, cost overruns, and stakeholder dissatisfaction, the study addresses the gap in understanding the role of internal leadership traits, particularly self-awareness, in improving project outcomes. Employing a quantitative research design, data were collected from 178 project implementers using a structured questionnaire, and analyzed through reliability tests, correlation analysis, regression, and ANOVA to establish relationships between self-awareness and project implementation. The findings reveal a strong, positive, and statistically significant relationship between self-awareness and project success, with self-awareness accounting for 59.3% of the variance in project implementation effectiveness. These results underscore the importance of emotional intelligence, especially self-awareness, as a key factor in enhancing leadership, team coordination, and decision-making within project environments. Based on the findings, the study recommends integrating self-awareness development into project management training and organizational capacity-building initiatives to foster improved project delivery. Furthermore, it suggests that future research should explore other emotional intelligence components and contextual factors to deepen the understanding of leadership influence on project performance. This study contributes to both academic literature and practical approaches in project management by highlighting self-awareness as a critical driver of successful project implementation in Rwanda’s development context.
