Abstract

The operational environment for Kenyan universities has become increasingly competitive and volatile. To remain viable, public universities must address resource reallocation. This study investigated how resource reallocations affect the sustainability of public universities in Kenya. The study was guided by the Triple Bottom Line model and adopted a positivist philosophy, employing a descriptive cross-sectional design. Data was collected from 154 senior administrators (79 Deputy Vice-Chancellors and 75 Registrars) across all 35 chartered public universities in Kenya using structured questionnaires. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analyses were used to test hypotheses. Key findings revealed significant positive relationships between Resource reallocation and sustainability of public universities in kenya. The study concluded that universities must prioritize optimizing resource allocation. The study recommended that leaders should learn new techniques on how to remain agile even in changing environments to achieve sustainability of the institutions. These findings underscored the critical synergy between resource reallocation and ensuring the long-term sustainability of Kenya’s public universities.
